Leonardo Amarante

Leonardo Amarante is the founding partner of his namesake firm Leonardo Amarante Advogados Associados in Rio de Janeiro. He has over 30 years of experience in civil liability law and is renowned for his work representing victims of plane crashes and getting compensation for users of faulty consumer products. He has also been very active fighting for victims of asbestos poisoning through his work with ABREA (The Brazilian Association of Asbestos Victims).

Leonardo recently made the news when he won a landmark judgment against Volkswagen in Brazil as part of the famous diesel emissions scandal, granting victims of the fraud a total of 54’000 Reales (17’200 Euros) each. The decision of the Court has been appealed.

Leonardo is currently focused on representing the victims of the Bento Rodrigues disaster, the catastrophic failure of a dam owned by a mining multinational, which caused 17 deaths in 2015.
