Admitted to the Bar association of Quebec in 1996, Normand Painchaud became senior partner at Sylvestre Painchaud et associés in 2004. He acquired distinctive expertise in class actions, notably in matters of finance, competition and consumer law.

Mr. Painchaud is the lead lawyer in the first and ongoing Canadian class action against mutual funds managers regarding the market timing scheme, as well as in cases against multinational corporations such as Maple Leaf, Apple, Volkswagen, Daimler-Mercedes-Benz and RBC. He was also the lead lawyer in the class action against the AMT involving commuter train service disruptions in January and February 2009, which was resolved in favour of its members in 2015. With 12 years of experience in this particularly complex field, Mr. Painchaud is now highly specialized in managing and undertaking class actions.

His clients also benefit from the considerable experience he gained over 20 years of practice in estate litigation, construction, real estate and mortgage law.

In 2009, he successfully represented the majority of the Montreal taxi industry against Aéroports de Montréal. Normand Painchaud is a certified mediator and sits on the Bar of Quebec’s class-action committee. He has spoken at conferences and judiciary peer panels in Montreal and Toronto.
